Twelve Year Old Me

I try to be a very positive person. I know for a fact that your vibe, your attitude is the determinant of your life. So I'm a glass half full kind of a girl. But I also think it's important to share my lows, my rock bottoms, because they shaped my life, and they define why I'm in the glorious place I'm in today.

I’d be lying if I said that I had one defining moment that I decided enough was enough.

That would’ve been nice to only have one. But then again, all of my rock bottoms have brought me here, a place I never imagined myself being but couldn’t be more grateful.

If I wrote about all of my rock bottoms the post would be 25 pages long. But I want to be transparent with you. I want to show you the true me. The experiences I’ve gone through. I know how you feel. I understand your struggles (even if you haven’t told anyone you’re struggling….I’ve been there too).

So I’ve decided that one by one I’m going to share with you my experiences in hopes to show you that there IS another side to the struggle. It does not have to be that hard. I know how impossible it feels. I also know how incredible it feels to be free.

So story number one…

When I was about twelve years old I decided I was done being the fat friend. It was already strange enough that I had insulin resistance syndrome (pre type two diabetes) at age eight and had to have the sugar free jolly ranchers in class when everyone else got the normal ones. I was done being the chubby one. I decided it was time to lose weight.

Want to know what I did? I counted on my hand every time I ate. I wouldn’t let myself go past 5 fingers...for the entire day. Eat less, weigh less is what I thought. Do you want to know what scares the absolute shit out of me? The fact that I was 12 and I have NO IDEA how I knew to do that. 5 things a day? Restriction...less is more. Where did I learn that? This absolutely was not taught in my home. This is the society we live in. Extremes. All or nothing. Carbs are bad. Fruit has too much sugar. Eat less weigh less. THIS NEEDS TO STOP. Why the hell don’t we promote eating REAL food? And a lot of it? FUELING our bodies with NOURISHMENT. Create a fat blasting machine that is our body naturally...if only we ate like it. And eat like it I mean real foods...carbs protein and fats. High quality. Eating when we’re hungry...stopping when we’re full.

Not associating guilt, happiness, stress or any emotion with food. Food should be enjoyed, not used as a source of happiness. One day at a time, one step at a time. The message of extremism and eat less to weigh less will be gone. Want to be able to achieve your dream body, health and life but can’t find your way through the diet advice? Let me show you the way.
