Motivation Monday: 10 Winter Fitness Motivation Hacks

This will be the first true “winter” full of snowy cold weather I’ve had in nearly 4 years! I had my fair share growing up in Northern Michigan where winter lasted a solid ⅔ of the year. So I’m going to be joining you in using some of my 10 fitness motivation tips to help stay consistent in my exercise routine when a fuzzy blanket, hot chocolate, and a movie sounds like the best possible life decision.

Let’s hop to it!

1. Set out your workout clothes the night before

Cute workout clothes motivate me, we know this. So if I set out a cute outfit the night before and put it by the sink, I’m sure to put it on and head straight to the gym.

2. Skip the snooze

I’m a big advocate of skipping the snooze button, mustering the energy to hop right out of bed, and get going before letting your mind come up with excuses of why you should skip that workout today. Also, huge advocate for working out in the morning to get those positive vibes going!

3. Start with a power walk and get warm

When I’m not feeling it I love doing a power walk at an incline while listening to some good music to get the blood flowing and energy started while I go over or plan the workout I want to do.

4. Take up a new class

Sometimes the environment of a new class with a workout style you love is enough to get you going on the snowiest of winter days.

5. Partake in the winter outdoor activities to get active

Okay, I hate winter sports. Like, I hate them. Mostly because I hate being cold! But if it’s mild enough, head out for a snowshoe, ski, snowboard, or cross country ski! I’ll probably be doing a bit more of this from now on now that I’ve got myself hitched to a ski junkie! We shall see...

6. Schedule it out

I’m a huge advocate for staying accountable. If you workout at a gym, schedule out your week of workouts for the day and time you plan on going, as well as the specific workout you’re going to do. Or, sign up for a full weeks’ worth of classes to stay accountable. Or a mix of both!

7. Get a buddy

Plan to meet a friend at the gym. This can be tricky, be sure to choose a friend you know you can count on, who will support you in heading to the gym when you say you will, rather than encouraging the both of you to skip it.

8. Change up your routine

This is one of my go-to tips for feeling unmotivated in general. I love to change it up. Whether its a new workout style, taking up cycling or running, or trying a new class always kickstarts the excitement again.

9. 30 minute workouts

Promise yourself just 30 minutes. If you have the energy to keep going, great! If not, know that you got a great workout in in just 30 minutes.

10. Weekends

I actually love working out on the weekends. Plan your rest days for during the week when waking up early is harder than usual or your schedule is busier than normal making that netflix and chill option much more pleasurable. If you go on the weekend you’ll probably have more sleep, less stress, and be able to focus more attention and energy on your workout!

What tips would you add?!
