Why am I a Health Coach?

Growing up I always wanted to be a Disney Animation Artist. My family is really just a bunch of Disney nerds and I’m not sure if I wanted to pursue that path because it meant I could live at Disney World or because I actually liked to draw….the world will never know! Then came high school and I decided I wanted to follow in my Dad’s footsteps and live in the business world. So, when college came around I majored in Accounting with a minor in Economics. You may be surprised to hear that I actually loved it! I think that’s because I was really good at it. Because of the extensive credit requirements (150) an Accounting major has, it is normally a five-year program. But I decided I wanted to enter the working world at the same time as my classmates, so I completed all 150 hours in four years. The summer after junior year I worked as an intern at a large international Accounting Firm in Chicago. It felt like I was living the dream! Making money, living in a big city, meeting such great friends and actually enjoying my job.

I ended up taking a position with the firm that would start in the fall after I graduated. It felt like I had hit the jackpot, going into senior year with a job all lined up! It was a guaranteed progression job with the potential to make a lot of money in the not so distant future. And I mean a lot of money, if I gave it my all. Including the four grueling (yes grueling…like I’d rather scratch my eyeballs out) exams to become a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA). With a ton of hard work, using my workouts to keep me sane, and support from my loved ones I passed all four exams and became a licensed CPA! Diana Matuszak, CPA.

Everything sounded perfect. I loved the people I was working with and I thrived in the fast paced business world environment. I was also making great money.  Deep down I still had a love for health and wellness. I decided I wanted to add some nutrition or exercise science background to my credentials in case I encountered an opportunity to work for a Health and Wellness Company in the future.

I started researching local colleges and curriculums when my Mom actually stumbled upon “Health Coach Institute” (thanks Mama!). Here I’d learn nutrition and how to help people find a healthy lifestyle, it sounded perfect! Long story short, I felt like I had encountered a life changing event and in reality I did. As I began absorbing this incredible information, it was like I had my Higher Being telling me “Hey you…this is what your calling is. This is what I want you to do.”

Now, DISCLAIMER. I am NOT telling you this to get a pat on the back, to brag, or anything like that. Not. At. All. Rather, it is just to say how truly passionate I am about helping YOU succeed in your health and life goals. I’ve chosen to forego my “safe” high income career in order to follow my dreams of creating a health and wellness brand that actually makes an impact in this world. I left that job, I left the steady salary, the steady promotions, all of it.

I am more motivated than ever to help people experience the incredibly life changing effects of a healthy lifestyle. I experienced them myself (another post for another day…) and I want to help as many people as possible discover them as well. I want to change the way health, weight loss, and this lifestyle are perceived by society. I want to help in reducing the prevalence of eating disorders, obesity and nutrition/exercise related disease. I want to better people’s lives.
